Are You A Sugar Addict?

Food containing sugarSugar addiction. It’s a real thing. I’ve been a recovering sugar addict for a few years now. When I completed the 30 Day Whole Body Detox for the 3rd time in 2014, I was finally free of my (lifelong) sugar addiction – and I thought I would be for good. It was amazing to have no desire to eat chocolate and to feel totally in control of what I was eating without any cravings. When I started the program again this spring (April 2015), I knew that a mild sugar addiction had crept up again and that I needed to make a clean break for 30 days. And I did.

Here we are in September of 2015. And I am feeling once again like I am craving sugar. What I’ve realized is that for me personally (and likely a few of you share this with me), eating just a bit of sugar, indulging every once in a while or simply having a few smores around the campfire is a trigger for my sugar addiction. It’s actually astounding to me that it only takes a few indulgences to get back into the vicious cycle. I have been secretly fighting it for about a month or two and am ready to let go.

It’s not about whether or not you’re going to fall off the healthy eating wagon, it’s simply about when. The best way to deal with it is to forgive yourself and take immediate steps to get back on board. Be grateful for your amazing body and know that you can reverse the symptoms of sugar addiction by taking care of your body and nourishing your cells.

For the first time since I developed the program in 2012, I will be doing a second 30 Day Whole Body Detox in the fall. My reasons for doing it now are different than in the spring. The main goal is to release my sugar cravings (yes, again) and go into the holiday season with my cravings under control. I already have a dozen people who are going on this journey with me. It is a bit harder to detox in the fall, but we’re creating a fall supplement using seasonal vegetables and soups & stews to take advantage of the fall weather.
