Yes, I am Las Vegas and on day 16 of the 30 Day Whole Body Detox. How is that even possible you may ask? Well it can be a bit of a challenge but being prepared does help. And a little bit of Vegas luck!
We had an evening flight yesterday so dinner ended up being a green smoothie (sort of) from Freshens in the Buffalo Airport. Not that filling. Note: it seems like here in the US they want to add sugar to your smoothie, so make sure you ask for no sugar. Mine was super sweet even without sugar, too much fruit. We did have some snacks, including USANA’s Berry Nutty bars (program approved). I just don’t like that feeling of not really eating a meal, know what I mean?
Today was an amazing first day! We were up at 4 am local time to confirm that our balloon ride was a go! And it was! We started our day early with some USANA Nutrimeal shakes. I brought my mini Hamilton Beach blender (as I often do) and we had a few imported bananas as well. Mine was a combo of Nutrimeal Free, Fibergy (never leave home without it!), ice, water, half a banana and 1/2 a packet of REV3. It was so delicious!! No greens but we don’t have a mini-fridge as it’s $15 a day to rent one and that doesn’t seem worth it. I packed a few snacks in my bag, plus lots of water for our hot-air balloon ride.
Just to let you know, the balloon ride was really awesome. A bucket-list item
for sure. It’s such a fun and calm way to fly. I really enjoyed the feeling, you don’t really feel as though you are moving. And the views were just beautiful. We landed by about 8 but it already felt like so much of the day had passed! We flew with Vegas Balloon Rides, and our pilot, Sheldon was wonderful. I highly recommend it. We did have a mimosa toast after the ride, but I had just a few sips and gave mine to my hubby. He’s the designated drinker.
We are staying at The Red Rock Resort which is off-strip. I should mention that I am here for USANA’s High Performance Summit, so it’s actually best that I avoid alcohol so that I can get the most out of the training. It’s a beautiful property and there are a lot of restaurants to choose from. Not much at 9 am mind you. Thankfully I found Tropical Smoothie Cafe and enjoyed a green smoothie for breakfast. Huge portion for $7! It’s call the Avocolada, with avocado, kale, pineapple, spinach, coconut & lime. Delicious! After the morning at the pool, we tried an asian fusion place for lunch. The edamame was great but the spring rolls were not. After making it clear that I could not have gluten, as it would make me sick, the peanut sauce that went with the meal was not gluten-free. In fact, the edamame was likely the only thing that was. Feeling a little defeated, we asked the locals we met if there was somewhere to buy healthy food. Well – we hit the jackpot – because Trader Joe’s is across the street from our hotel!!! We don’t have Trader Joe’s in Canada and we were also told that there are only two in Vegas so it was a big win.
As you can see, my snacks for the week have been refilled and I am a happy camper. The biggest stress for me when I am travelling is always around food. Even when I am not doing the detox, I am a vegetarian who cannot eat gluten. Options are usually limited. So finding a grocery store and getting a few extra snacks goes a long way.
How is everyone else doing on their detox programs?
