Day off! Today was my hubby’s birthday and he was given the day off from work. Very cool! As Thursday is also usually a day when I’m home with our daughter, it was a great opportunity to do something FUN together. We surprised our three year old with a trip on the GO train to Toronto to visit Ripley’s Aquarium. We arrived before 11 am and it was already pretty busy. Many school groups were visiting as well so it was pretty loud and crowded. We did bring a stroller, which was necessary as she got tired, but also a bit cumbersome. We did get to see many varieties of marine life and the Dangerous Lagoon was pretty amazing – although she got quite scared when she looked up and saw a shark swimming above her head. We spent about 90 minutes in the exhibits. If you’re planning a visit, I would recommend that
- you arrive first thing in the morning (it was even busier when we left)
- buy your tickets online ahead of time
- wait until your kids are closer to three year old
- bring a lot of patience, and your food
Speaking of food, there is a small café but it did seem like most people were snacking throughout the aquarium. We brought a small cooler bag (fit under the stroller) with a ton of food. I am always packing lots of food when we are going out for the day (even when not on the detox) as I find it super hard to buy anything remotely healthy (or vegetarian and gluten-free) when we’re out. I had prepared a quinoa and greens salad with the maple balsamic vinaigrette from our 30 Day Whole Body Detox guidebook. We also brought the rest of our batch of No Bake Bars. Rounded off with some berries, raw veggies and hummus and we were well fed. We stopped at Chipotle for hubby to pick up his lunch. It’s a great place and I could have eaten there easily! I totally forgot that it was right on Front St.
We finished our celebrations with the cupcakes I had purchased on the weekend from Kelly’s Bake Shoppe. Although they do freeze well, I really like them best fresh and fluffy! We still managed to eat them. I feel very blessed to have spent the day with my family, in the middle of the week and to have enjoyed an adventure together.
